Okay, so I have some mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. When I was single, I would feel a little FOMO as I watched girls heading home on the bus with their bouquets--no matter how comfortable I was without a boyfriend. Then, coupled-up, it can feel a little contrived, like you have to be told when to be romantic. But the one thing I don't feel conflicted about are presents. I love giving and getting gifts, to a pathological degree (I blame growing up without Christmas or birthday gift-giving) (okay, yes Dad, it's true you would give me a book each year). It's nice to acknowledge the people you love with a little token of affection. Of course, I'll take those tokens any time of year, and as our anniversary is only a couple of weeks out from Valentine's Day, we usually make that a bigger deal... but, still, presents. Here are some lovely gifts that I think work for Valentine's Day--or, hell, any day! Gift-giving--and that turquoise ring--for President, I say.
