There are two things in this world that I truly, deeply love: singing Mariah Carey songs badly, and spotting celebrities. So I was THRILLED to be invited to the friends and family launch of Blind Dragon, a fancy-schmancy new karaoke bar just off the Sunset Strip. I gathered some uninhibited pals - Gypsy, Sarah and Greta - and when we showed up at 9pm (I know, me out so late on a school night?! Only for Mariah) we managed to nab one of the three private rooms and sang our little hearts out. I've decided that karaoke is really cheap therapy - well, not so cheap if you get the bottle service here which is $300 a pop - because singing, however out of tune, just makes me so damn happy.
And these girls are so much fun. I busted out some aforementioned Mariah - Always Be My Baby! - plus a little Spice Girls (2 Become 1!) for good 90s measure. Greta killed it with TLC's Waterfalls and American Boy; Ms Gypsy went with Dolly Parton OF COURSE and Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss A Thing. The lovely Sarah got her Blondie on, and, it turns out, does a mean Gangsta's Paradise. We even had hostess Madame James join us!
As we emerged from our room and into the party it really felt like walking into the version of LA I always imagined. It was terrifying and amazing - sleek girls with taut faces and beautiful boys in hats peered past each other's shoulders to scan the room. I bumped into Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne (who really isn't very tall!), then rounded a corner to spot David Arquette and that model dude who was married to Dannii Minogue. Apparently Gigi Hadid was there; Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan too - but we mustn't have had our hot-mess radars on because we missed them in the heaving crowd. Instead, we letched on Bruce Lee and practised our Botox faces in the back room. Snookie is the master.
So much girly fun... I'm already planning our next karaoke night! Question is - what will I sing?! Do you have a go-to karaoke favourite?
