In my little daydreams, where my hair never tangles, my fridge is always full and I have thighs that suit palazzo pants, a fancy interiors guru comes in when I feel a little bored of my surroundings and completely revamps our home. But – surprise! – freelance writing doesn’t quite cover the thousands those clever designers charge, (or even DIY overhauls of a room, when the urge to redecorate hits every few weeks), my hair is always tangled and I most definitely do not suit palazzo pants.
So sorry, apartment, but you’re stuck with my less-than-deft hand when things are in need of a little freshening up. My compromise? Adding items that immediately add a new element of interest to a room, feel luxurious or punch above their weight when it comes to quirk factor. You know, the marshmallow-soft silkiness of linen sheets, the houseplant that injects a bit of life, or a rug that’s a feature in its own right. It’s amazing how one little pop of design goodness can transform a room, and there’s something I love about layering bits and bobs over time.
Here’s six beauties I have my eye on until I’m living out my daydream (Martyn Lawrence Bullard, call me).
