Back in August, Lauren Bacall passed away at the grand old age of 89. I didn't know much about her life at the point, but I knew I adored her in How To Marry A Millionaire, all husky and quick-witted. So when Marie Claire asked me to write her life story for their December issue, I pounced--first onto Netflix, where I promptly revisited that classic, and then into her biography. Turns out, she had a fascinating life. Born Betty Bacal in the Bronx, raised by a single mother and Jewish, she was famously married to Humphrey Bogart, although it wasn't quite as romantic as legend has it (he had a long-term affair with his wig-maker, and was a heavy drinker). Oh, and she was once engaged to Frank Sinatra. My story's here, in case you'd like to read more about Lauren's life. I loved writing it.
