Millicent Myers is one of the most naturally beautiful ladies I know (and adore). That's not to say she doesn't take care of herself - I know all about her body moisturiser habit (it's serious), and when we were younger I recall her hard-core commitment to the hair straightener. But when it comes to make-up, she has an enviably lo-fi look that fits her like a glove. To me, it feels like she's got something timeless and effortless going on, in a very chic, French-y way. Maybe because she's engaged to a Frenchman. Isn't that what we all want? The beauty vibe, I mean, not her fiance, haha! So, I asked her to pretty-please let me in on her secrets. Here, she shares the red lipstick that best suits her caramel skin, the sunscreen that she swears isn't greasy and the one tool she will never, ever leave the house without...
I love the thought of getting all dolled up but actually making this happen is another story - who has the time? For me, an extra 30 minutes of sleep wins hands down when up against a decent amount of time to beautify so I need a simple routine that's both effective and glamourous!
If you could only choose three beauty prods to live with, what would they be?
When thinking about my 3 desert island products, I narrowed it down by focusing on the 3 areas I tend to highlight the most - my lips, eyes and skin/complexion. Here goes...
MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo
My makeup philosophy = less is more...except when it comes to lipstick. I'll happily pile it on just to get that ultimate bold colour. Oh and the brighter, the better I say. I love MAC's lipstick in Ruby Woo because it's the perfect shade of red, has an ultra matte finish and lasts all night long. In my opinion, a red lip adds a touch of glam in about 20 seconds flat...voila!
Bioré UV Perfect Face Milk SPF30
I first came across this sunscreen on my birthday a couple of years at Balmoral Beach in Sydney. I was sitting on the sand with my sister-in-law when I tried out her sunscreen from Japan and this may sound silly but it completely blew me away! I'm used to thick sunscreen that leaves your skin feeling clogged up and oily but this just glided over and wait for it, left my skin feeling hydrated while matte-ifying at the same time. Amazing. I now use this everyday, either by itself or under my makeup as a primer.
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
So this is probably more of a tool than a product but I have been known to go out and buy an eyelash curler with my morning coffee on the days I forgot to curl my lashes! I always carry one with me now but it's through this forgetfulness that I've learnt that it's worth the extra money for quality. I once bought a cheap curler and it snipped off sections of my eyelashes! Horrified. (Plus, I'm not sure what it is, but there's something about the cold metal on my eyelids first thing in the morning that I find oh-so refreshing).
Thank you so much, Milko! Xx
