To paraphrase Pitbull, there are a lot of pretty ladies in this world. And I greedily want to know their secrets; the products they've found that they absolutely, positively couldn't-imagine-ever-living-without, plus how they use them. So, I'm asking some ladies who have nailed their beauty look to share their three desert-island products: you know, the ones that they'd forsake all others for and basically want to marry.
Kicking things off is Ms. Faith Campbell, who went from a maid of honor who worried that blush would make her look like a drag queen at my wedding (it didn't) to bona fide beauty editor on a glossy magazine. She's my go-to for talking me off the ledge about beauty buys (see: Retinol) and advising me on others (hello, Si Intense, I think I love you). She has amazing skin, and the ability to never look overdone. If you're a makeup minimalist, Faith is your jam.
Over to you, my friend...
My beauty philosophy is both lazy and vain: I want to look smokin’ hot, with as little effort as possible. It’s part of my job to try new beauty products (cry me a river), but these are three gems I love, can’t quit and have recommend to strangers on public transport.
Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup SPF 15
I am a pale lady, almost transparent, and this foundation comes as close to my natural skin tone as I’ve ever gotten (12 Beige Rose, I love you). The light, liquid formulation slaps on easily (I use fingers) and provides excellent coverage with just a tiny amount of product, so my skin doesn’t look or feel congested. Not too dewy and not too matte, the finish is sheer, natural and, well, velvety. It also stays on my face all day, though I do wear primer underneath and you should too. Don’t try and talk to me about Armani or Laura Mercier foundations – what would you know? [ed note: Nothing, I know nothing.] This is THE foundation, trust me. Or don’t. I don’t really care as long as I look smokin’ hot.
Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash
One of the most boring parts of my day is washing my face before bed, but for the love of dogs I will never ever skip it. Nor will I use a cleansing face wipe unless I’m on an aeroplane. Think of all the crap that’s on your face at the end of the day – makeup, dead skin cells, pollution, small bits of food that you missed… Revolting. This cleanser foams without drying, cleans like it’s preparing for a house inspection and smells lovely – I’d call it herbal and grassy. After using this you can apply your serum, moisturiser and eye cream, then sleep sound and smug on your silk pillow case.
MV Organic Skincare Skin Booster - Rose Plus
My name is Faith and I am a moisturiser slut. If it claims to ‘minimise wrinkles’, ‘boost collagen production’, ‘reduce redness’ or ‘even skin tone’ I will lather it on my freshly-cleansed face with glee. But, like many sluts, I get bored easily and will quickly move on to the next ‘breakthrough scientific formulation’. Through all the chopping and changing, this wonderful facial oil is a steady favourite. I use it as a serum, underneath the moisturiser du jour, and it manages to keep my sometimes-sensitive skin happy. My skin told me so, in a tiny voice that sounds like this.
Thanks, Faithko! I hope you like this new series, y'all... I'd love to hear what beauty prods you can't live without! Xx
